Bone Grafting

Restoring Your Smile At Marc A. Minch, DMD

At Marc A. Minch, DMD, our goal is to bring smiles to Boynton Beach, FL. If you are experiencing bone loss or damage, we may recommend bone grafting to restore your smile. It is a surgical procedure used to replace missing or damaged bone with new material. The grafting material is placed into the area where there is loss or damage, which supports new bone growth and enhances the strength and stability of your facial structure.

What Causes Bone Loss Or Damage?

Bone loss can be caused by a variety of factors, but it is usually caused by periodontitis, also known as gum disease. If gum disease is left untreated or progresses significantly, inflammation can lead to bone loss. Another common cause is trauma to the mouth or jaw. Dental trauma can cause problems down the road, including bone damage. Trauma can also lead to a missing tooth, which can cause the bone around the missing tooth to break down.

Why Receive Bone Grafting?

If you are experiencing loss or damage to the jaw structure, this procedure can improve your overall smile and preserve it for years to come. It is an excellent way to:

  • Prepare For Dental Implants: Many patients considering dental implants may not have sufficient jaw density. This procedure helps build a strong foundation, providing a solid base for the implants.

  • Repair Defects: Grafting is often used to address defects caused by trauma or other conditions that result in structural loss.

  • Treat Gum Disease: Advanced gum disease can lead to significant deterioration around teeth, but grafting can help regenerate lost structure while supporting your teeth.

  • Support Reconstructive Surgery: In reconstructive surgery, grafting is used to repair and rebuild structures that have been affected by injury or disease.

Benefits Of Bone Grafting

Bone grafting has numerous advantages, making it an excellent solution for addressing loss or damage to the jaw structure. Some of its benefits include:

  • Restores Volume And Density: Grafting helps you regain lost jaw volume and density, which is crucial for patients experiencing structural loss due to various factors.

  • Supports Dental Implants: For patients who need dental implants, having enough bone density is essential for the success of the implant. Bone grafting is an excellent way to create a stable foundation for implants, which can improve the overall success rate of the implants and help them last for a long time—or even for a lifetime.

  • Helps With Healing And Regeneration: Bone grafting encourages new growth, aiding the body’s natural healing processes and promoting the regeneration of tissue.

  • Improves Functionality And Appearance: In dental procedures, this procedure can enhance both function and appearance. It restores the natural contours of the jaw while supporting function with chewing, eating and biting.

  • Reduces The Risk of Complications: By addressing structural loss early, grafting can prevent more severe complications down the road, such as implant failure or issues with the jaw.
